From New York to Milan, Upcoming Fashion Week Calendar
The capitals of fashion
Kicking off is New York, September 7-12 : a week to
“celebrate the reopening after its seasons of digital presentations” declares
the CFDA (the equivalent of our Chamber of Fashion). From 17 to 21 it will be
London's turn , which after three seasons online is planning a hybrid edition
with over 100 designers including big brands and new talents. Then Milan, from
21 to 27 September , with 42 live fashion shows out of a total of 62 shows. And
again Paris, 27 September-Tuesday 5 October , as usual between September and
the first weeks of October, for which the official calendar has not yet been
presented.
The best of the New York calendar
91 scheduled events, the return to the calendar of some big
US brands and the Met Gala are all prerequisites for a rich edition. To capture
the spirit of rebirth of the city (which on September 11 celebrates the 20th
anniversary of the collapse of the Twin Towers ) and of American pride there is
also the highly anticipated new exhibition in collaboration between Costume
Institute and Metropolitan, "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion ” ,
exceptionally postponed to September.
The exhibition opens with the Met Gala , the most anticipated event of the
year which, as usual, will fill up with VIPs dressed in themed clothes.
Co-presidents alongside Anna Wintour, a host of planetary and very young
stars: Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish,
Naomi Osaka and Amanda Gorman , demonstrating that it will be a September with
a new face. Certainly more inclusive, with 13 emerging black designers joining
the official fashion week supported by the Black in Fashion Council. The
designer chosen to open the fashion week is also inclusive: she kicks off the
Collina Strada fashion shows with her
imaginative creations shown on the most varied bodies. Tom Ford will close, as
usual .Special guest, this year Moschino
left Milan in favor of the US fashion capital. Great expectations also for
Michael Kors who celebrates the 40th anniversary of the brand.
London, in a hybrid version
London is the boldest fashion capital. Forge of new talents.
An avant-garde spirit that does not escape the new media, with the new TikTok
space that will host some of the fashion shows. They choose to digitally present
Vivienne Westwood, Molly Goddard, Roland Mouret, Halpern and Temperly. Among
the most anticipated live catwalks Simone Rocha, Erdem, Rejina Pyo and Richard
Quinn . A question mark remains on Burberry and JWAnderson , still absent from
the official calendar. For the first time on the catwalk instead Nensi Dojaka
and 16 Arlington arrive. COS , the highest brand of the Swedish giant H&M,
is also making its debut on the catwalk , exceptionally guest of the London
fashion week.
Milan, who comes and who goes
From 21 to 27 September Milan Fashion Week will be staged
with 42 live fashion shows out of 62. The Roberto Cavalli fashion show, the
fresh Florentine brand of the new creative director Fausto Puglisi, is back.
The Moncler's show-event is also back: one of the most anticipated of Milan
Fashion Week, with multiple installations of the fashion hub in collaboration
with the most talented designers in the world. Boss is also back on the
catwalk, while the emerging Vitelli
(very young knitwear brand), Luisa Spagnoli and
Hui walk the Milanese catwalk MM6 Maison Margiela for the first
time .
Emilio Pucci, whose new creative direction has just been
announced , remains digital this season. Other big names like Fendi, Armani,
Prada, Versace and Jil Sander have confirmed the live shows. Valentino returns
to Paris after the Milanese seasons and Moschino flies to New York. Also absent
are Bottega Veneta, which will present the spring summer 2022 collection on
October 21, in Detroit, and Gucci, outside the official fashion week calendar.
Paris
The calendar of Paris, the fashion capital with the highest number of fashion shows and events, has not yet been made official. From Monday 27 September to Tuesday 5 October, with 92 fashion houses on the calendar, it presents new top names and luxury giants, from Kenneth Ize to Christian Dior, from Coperni to Louis Vuitton. One certainty: the grand finale will be dedicated to Albert Elbaz , the famous designer who passed away earlier this year who had recently launched his AZ factory brand.
